How to fix a bent Pokémon card
A bent or curling card is one of the most common things collectors in Singapore ask us about. The good news: most bends are not permanent. Here is what you can safely try at home, what to avoid, and when it is time to hand the card to someone who does this every day.
◆ First, check what you have
Curl, bend or crease?
- Usually easy
Curl or warp
The whole card bows gently, like a shallow bowl. Often caused by humidity or a tight binder page.
- Often fixable
Soft bend
A smooth fold in one area, such as a corner or across the middle, with no sharp line.
- Needs a pro
Crease
A sharp line where the card’s layers have broken. Pressure alone will not remove it. See can a creased card be fixed?
Quick test: tilt the card under a lamp. A bend reflects as a smooth wave. A crease shows as a hard line, a ridge you can feel, or a thin white mark.
◆ Safe to try at home
For curls and soft bends
1. Sleeve it
Put the card in a soft penny sleeve, then a rigid top loader or card saver. This protects the surface and stops the bend getting worse.
2. Lay it flat under light, even weight
Place the sleeved card flat inside a heavy book or between two flat boards, so the pressure is spread evenly. Check it every day or two. A gentle curl often relaxes within a few days.
3. Fix the storage, not just the card
In Singapore’s humidity, curling usually comes from moisture. Store cards flat, sleeved and in a sealed box with a silica gel pack, away from windows, aircon vents and the floor. Holo and foil cards curl the most.
4. Know when to stop
If nothing has changed after about a week, or you notice a line forming, stop pressing and get the card looked at.
◆ Please don’t
What never to do
- No heat. No iron, hair dryer or hot surface. Heat can warp the card further and damage the holo layer.
- No water or steam. No damp cloths, steaming or soaking. Moisture is what makes cards curl in the first place, and it can mark the surface for good.
- Don’t bend it back by hand. Bending the other way usually adds a second fold, and often turns a bend into a crease.
- Don’t clamp it hard. Clips and clamps press unevenly and can dent the edges.
- Don’t experiment on a valuable card. If the card is worth a lot, or you plan to grade or sell it, get advice before trying anything.
◆ When to get help
Signs it needs a professional
- The bend has left a sharp line or a white mark.
- The bend runs through the holo or the surface looks cracked.
- A bent corner has started to lift or peel.
- The card is valuable, or you plan to grade it.
- Home pressing for a week has not helped.
How we handle a bent card
Every card goes under the microscope first, so we can see exactly how the card is bent and whether any layer has been damaged. You get an honest opinion and an exact price before anything starts. The card is then pressed flat slowly by hand, under controlled weight in a climate-controlled setting. It takes days, not minutes, and every step is photographed.
Bend repair starts from S$30 per card and takes 4 days minimum. Send photos for an exact quote. If grading is in your plans, read PSA altered cards explained first.

◆ FAQ
Common questions
Can a bent Pokémon card be fixed?
Usually, yes. Gentle curls and soft bends often flatten very well. If the bend has left a sharp line, it has become a crease: it can be reduced a lot, but a faint line may stay.
How long should I keep a curled card under weight?
For a gentle curl, a few days is often enough. Check it every day or two. If nothing has changed after about a week, stop and get it assessed.
Can I use a hair dryer, iron or steam to flatten a card?
No. Heat and moisture can warp the card further, lift the holo layer or mark the surface, and the damage is usually permanent.
Why are my Pokémon cards curling?
Mostly humidity. A card is made of layers that take in moisture at different rates, so it bows. Holo and foil cards curl most. Storing cards flat, sleeved and in a sealed box with silica gel helps a lot in Singapore.
Will a fixed bend affect grading?
It can. Graders may treat a flattened bend as pressing, which they count as altered. If you plan to grade the card, ask us first.
How much does bend repair cost?
Bend repair starts from S$30 per card and takes 4 days minimum. Send photos for a free assessment and an exact quote.

Not sure if your card can be flattened?
Send a photo of the card, tilted under a light so the bend shows. We will tell you honestly whether to leave it, try pressing it at home, or have it repaired. Cards are dropped off and collected in person in Singapore, by appointment.
