Pokejem / Guide: creased cards
◆ Guide · Crease removal
Can a creased Pokémon card be fixed?
Often, yes, but how far depends on the type of crease. Here is how to tell what you have, what a restorer can realistically do, and what to avoid so you do not make it worse.
Soft crease or hard crease?
Tilt the card under a lamp. A soft crease shows as a gentle wave or line with the surface still intact. A hard crease is a sharp fold where you can often see a white line, a ridge you can feel, or tiny cracks in the print or foil.
What professional crease removal does
The card is inspected under a microscope, then pressed flat slowly under controlled weight in a climate-controlled setting. It takes days, not minutes, which is why crease removal starts from 7 days. The aim is a card that sits flat again with the line as faint as the card allows.
What not to try at home
- Do not iron the card or use a hair dryer; heat can warp it and damage the surface.
- Do not soak or spray it with water.
- Do not bend it back the other way; that adds a second crease.
- Keep it flat in a sleeve and top loader until it is looked at.
When it cannot be fixed
If the crease has broken through the print, torn the cardstock or taken foil off, it can be flattened but not erased. A good restorer tells you this from your photos, before you pay anything.

◆ FAQ
Common questions
Can a bent Pokémon card be straightened?
Yes. A bent or warped card can usually be pressed flat again. Bends without a sharp fold line give the best results.
